DES MOINES, Iowa—The Fire wrestling team enjoyed a record-breaking stay Saturday at the NAIA National Championships.
Olson Delisca placed fourth to lead the way, as four SEU wrestlers reached the podium.
These mark the first four national placers in program history.
Delisca finished fourth, dropping a heartbreaking 5-4 decision in the 125-pound national semifinal to drop to the third-place bracket. In the consolation semifinal, the junior scored a 6-4 decision over Indiana Tech’s Sawyer Miller to head to the third-place match.
Dylan Chatterton placed seventh, defeating Indiana Tech’s Thomas Garty by a 6-2 decision, getting out to an early first period advantage.
The Miami native dropped a 15-8 decision to finish fourth.
At 133, Ethan Owen finished eighth, losing to Brady Moser of Lindsey Wilson by decision, 4-1 in the seventh-place bout.
Freshman Angel del Cueto also finished eighth, losing the seventh-place match by second period technical fall.
All four earned All-American honors by advancing to today’s placement matches, and helped the Fire finish 11th as a team.
