LAKELAND, Fla.—Freshmen Giovanni Allen and Davonte Vanterpool were both honored by The Sun Conference for their performances last week at the UCF Black & Gold Challenge.
Allen was named the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for posting a new conference-best mark in the javelin with a toss of 50.98 meters to finish ninth in the field of mostly Division I and II athletes. He also posted a 41.82 in the hammer, which leads the conference and finished seventh overall.
Vanterpool was named Men’s Track Athlete of the Week after posting the top time in the NAIA in the 110 Hurdles with a time of 14.36 to hit the NAIA “A” Standard. Vanterpool also posted a 55.38 in the 400 Hurdles to finish fifth in the event.
The Fire compete again this week at the Bulls Invitational at USF.
