Livonia, MI — The Ancilla College women’s bowling team won their second consecutive regional tournament as they defeated Muskegon Community College 8,993 to 8,885 Friday at the MCCAA/Region XII Championship at Merri-Bowl Lanes. This was the closest match these two conference opponents have played all year.
Muskegon claimed the top individual spot in the all-events and singles competition. Ancilla’s Brooklynn Schutz and Breanna Gibbons claimed the double title 1172 to 1167 over Muskegon. Ancilla’s Taylor Landes and Alecia Albanese were third in doubles (1,150) and Taylor Ellison and Mackenzie Laskey were fourth (1,150).
In the singles competition Schutz was third (621) and Breanna Gibbons was fourth (616). Taylor Landes was sixth (610) and Aleicia Albanese finished ninth (605). Jamie Perry of Muskegon won the singles event with a 655 score.
In the all-event standings Gibbons was second (1,638), Schutz (1,606) and Landes (1,606) tied for third, Ellison (1,584) and Albanese (1,584) were tied for sixth. Kendra Schuitema of Muskegon won this event with a 1,703. All four of the Ancilla women were named to the all-MCCAA and all-Region XII teams in addition to the Region XII all-tournament team.
Jarrett Whitehead (1,655) placed ninth in men’s division in the all-Events competition and was named all-MCCAA and all-Region XII, in addition to the all-Tournament team. He was seventh in the singles results (659), which was won by Austin Hostetler (728) of Jackson College who posted a near perfect 299 score in his third game. Whitehead will advance to nationals.
Michael Carney shot a 1,562 and Vaughn Schroeder a 1,555 to finish in the top twenty of the all-events competition.
The NJCAA National Bowling Tournament will be held at Airport Lanes in Cheektowaga, NY on Feb. 28 and March 1 and 2.
