Sophomore LaRae Rascoe was named as a National Junior College Athletic Association Division II 3rd team All-American.
Rascoe finished the year with a 20.2 scoring clip overall and a 22.0 mark in the MCCAA. She set records for steals (season 152) and (career 287), assists (season 103) and career (197) in additional to scoring 1,136 points. She rebounded at a 7.4 per game clip this year, the best on the team.
She was named the MCCAA Western Division Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. Rascoe helped lead this year’s freshman dominated team to a 15-14 mark.
The 5-4 sophomore helped guide the Chargers to their first NJCAA Women’s Basketball National Tournament last year. She was the catalyst that 2017-18 sophomore led team needed. She helped pushed them to a 26-7 record, the program’s best ever, and their first win in a national tournament. She was a favorite on NJCAA-TV during the tournament making their top highlight plays each day.
“LaRae has been a joy to watch over the past two years,” said Athletic Director Brian Pearison. “She is always the hardest working player on the court and her play backs it up. She was a difference maker for that program.”
Rascoe joined the Lady Chargers in 2017 fresh off a runner-up finish with Pike High School in the Indiana State basketball tournament. She didn’t start, but was the first player off the bench and usually finished the game on the court.
