BALANCED ATTACK HELPS TROJANS TO WIN OVER USF

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A balanced offensive attack that featured four players with double digit kills helped the Taylor volleyball team to a four-set, road victory over Saint Francis on Thursday night.

Becca Gerig (14 kills), Rachel Bouma (12 kills), Callie Drage (11 kills), and Addy Bailey (11 kills) each reached double figures in the kills column as the Trojans connected for a .221 hitting percentage in the victory.

The Trojans (10-4, 4-2 CL) won the opening set by a 25-19 margin before taking set two 25-23. Saint Francis (3-12, 2-3 CL) extended the match with a 25-21 victory in the third set before the Trojans closed out the match with a 25-19 victory in set four.

Junior Haley Harrell organized the Taylor attack with 36 assists while freshman Brooke Syswerda dished out 14 helpers.

Sophomore Samantha Korn led the Trojans with 23 digs while Gerig added 14 digs and Laura Craig tallied 12 digs for the Taylor defense. Bailey and Springer led the TU effort at the net with five and four blocks, respectively.

The Trojans have now won five of their last six games and will head to Spring Arbor, Michigan to face the Spring Arbor Cougars in a Crossroads League matchup on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
