BRUNSWICK, Ga.—Southeastern University junior Felipe Barbosa hauled in three awards at The Sun Conference Tournament Banquet.
Not only was he named Second Team All-Sun Conference, but he was also honored as a member of the Academic All-Conference Team, and was the Co-Champion of Character Award recipient.
Barbosa posted a 10-9 record and was 3-4 in conference play, playing No. 1 singles for all but two matches and has teamed with Thomas Ortega to post a 15-4 record in doubles. That tandem has won nine of its last 10, and went 6-1 in conference play.
The Vila Velha, Brazil native qualified for academic all-conference by posting a GPA of 3.5 or higher, achieving sophomore status, and having at least two semesters complete at his institution.
Barbosa was also named a co-recipient of the Champion of Character Award, having served as a captain for the Fire the last two seasons, has championed environmental causes, and has helped create a Brazilian Student Association at Southeastern and has helped create one at USF as well.
The Fire will take on Coastal Georgia Thursday in The Sun Conference semifinals.
