The fourth-ranked Knights of Marian University had too much firepower for the Pilots to handle on Saturday as BC fell 9-1 and 15-0 in the doubleheader. Marian remains unbeaten in league play with a flawless 10-0 record while their overall mark moves to 19-1. BC falls to 1-16 overall and 1-7 in Crossroads League action.
In game one, BC produced three hits, two of which led to BC’s only score of the day. In the second frame, Cassandra Nickerson and Danica Mast each produced singles, and BC’s run was aided by a MU miscue. Allena McElfresh was credited with the run after reaching first base via an error and advancing to second by a fielder’s choice to then score on Mast’s RBI single.
In contrast, Marian’s bats were strong and steady, tallying 14 hits and plating nine runs in the eight-run victory. Although the final was lopsided, the majority of MU’s offense came late in the contest, including a five-run bottom of the fourth that moved a 3-1 score to an 8-1 advantage.
In the nightcap, the Knights came out swinging to plate six runs in the first frame. Fifteen hits and six errors resulted in 16 total runs while BC narrowly escaped a no-hitter, picking up a single off the bat of Victoria Ebersol in the top of the eighth inning.
BC will get right back to work on Monday hosting Grace College in a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m.
