BC Women’s Golf Captures Michiana Crosstown Clash
South Bend, Ind. – The women’s golf team opened up their fall season by winning the Michiana Crosstown Clash on Friday afternoon at Erskine Golf Club. In a match that pitted all four South Bend / Mishawaka area schools, the Pilots topped them all, shooting a team score of 329 on the day.
In their first round of the season, the Pilots bested St. Mary’s (Ind.) by five strokes, while Holy Cross carded a 356 and IU South Bend finished at 428. Chloe Crusan (SO/Greenville, Wis.)’s 80, which included birdies on her final two holes, was a spark for the Pilots as she shot 43-37. Brooke Thomas (SO/Flushing, Mich.) shot an 82, while newcomer Jaycee Bunner (JR/Fort Wayne, Ind.) got in the mix at an 83 in her Pilot debut, and Katie Brooks (JR/Fishers, Ind.) carded an 84.
“We really didn’t play that well today, scoring-wise as a team, but I was really proud of the way we continued to fight and grind out this victory,” stated Head Coach Chris Hess, who ties former coach Danny Randolph for all-time women’s golf victories. “We want to be a team who plays with no fear and refuses to give in to adversity. Today we showed we can be that team.”
The Pilots return to the links Saturday morning for a match play event against St. Mary’s at Signal Point Golf Club in Niles for a 10 am tee-time.
