Bethel Men’s Soccer Powers Past Foresters
Mishawaka, Ind. – The Bethel men’s soccer team returned home to Morey Field and powered past the Foresters 3-1 on Saturday night, marking consecutive wins for the first time in five weeks for the Pilots. The Pilots improve to 10-4-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the Crossroads League with two regular season matches remaining.
The Foresters got on the board first in the 22nd minute, as Jake Erlandson beat Philip Keller to the left side off a free kick from 20 yards out. The Pilots picked up the pressure offensively and Henry Schaumer tallied his first goal of the season in the 41st minute to knot the score at 1-1, as Bruno Jaeger and Pedro Patino teamed up for the assists.
Just three mninutes later, the Pilots lit the scoreboard up again as Bruno Jaeger continued his team-leading goal scoring and connected on the receiving end of a Lucas Moreira free kick in the 44th minute to give the hosts a 2-1 lead heading into intermission.
The Pilots held serve in the second half as Keller turned away all three shots on goal after the break. Jose Barquin tacked on a goal of his own in the 80th minute off an impressive shot from the left side of the 18-yard box, beating the keeper to the far post to provide the final 3-1 margin in favor of the Pilots.
Keller made five saves on the night for the Pilots, while Pedro Patino added a game-high 4 shots.
The Pilots continue at Morey Field on Wednesday at 7:00 pm, when they welcome in Crossroads League-leading, and No. 22 in the nation, Spring Arbor Cougars. The Pilots will honor their five seniors as a part of pre-match festivities.
