LAKELAND, Fla.—Though the women’s tennis team ended their season with a 6-3 defeat against Warner, senior Sydni Brookhouser finished her collegiate tennis career by rallying in a thrilling three-set comeback effort.
Brookhouser, who was honored prior to the match as the lone senior on the team, dropped a close first set to her opponent at no. 6 singles (5-7) before rattling off six straight games in a 6-0 shutout to force a deciding frame. The former women’s soccer goalkeeper seized momentum, which carried her to a 6-2 victory in the third set of the marathon match.
At the onset of the match, Southeastern collected an 8-0 decision at the no. 1 doubles spot, as Sharienne Ricardo and Angelique Myrtil swept their top line counterparts. Despite the duo’s fourth win of the year, the Royals took the other two pairings to lead 2-1 heading into individual play.
Myrtil collected her team-high sixth win in singles competition, making quick work of her opposition at no. 2 singles (6-1, 6-0) to draw the Fire even, but tight matches fell in favor of Warner as the Royals clinched the match with wins in four of the five remaining contests.
The Fire, who faced six ranked opponents and three NCAA Division II squads in 2018, concluded their season with a 2-13 mark.
