The Centier Bank Performers of the Week are Crown Point freshman wrestler Sam Goin and South Bend Saint Joseph junior swimmer Mary Cate Pruitt.
In Saturday’s Duneland Athletic Conference championship meet held at Valparaiso High School, the No. 2 ranked wrestler in the state at 102 pounds helped the Bulldogs to the team title by pinning Lake Central sophomore Johnny Cortez at the 2:35 mark of the match. Goin was one of six individual champions for Crown Point, which edged Chesterton, 212.5-203, for the crown.
In Saturday’s Northern Indiana Conference meet held at the Elkhart Health and Aquatics Center, Pruitt helped the Indians claim their third straight team title with 585 points and earned most valuable player honors in the process. The University of Notre Dame recruit captured the 200 freestyle with a record-time of 1:50.77 and the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.96. She was also part of the winning 400 freestyle (3:34.25) and 200 freestyle relay (1:39.74) teams.
The Centier Bank Performer of the Week is open to any male-female student athlete who participates in any IHSAA sanctioned sport and whose school is in the Centier Bank geographic area.
