The Centier Bank Performer of the Week is Valparaiso junior guard Brandon Newman. In Friday’s 69-41 win over Portage in Duneland Conference action, the 6-foot-4 standout scored 32 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, despite missing the final 3:38 of the second quarter after picking up two fouls. He also did not play in the final 4:24 of the contest after the outcome had already been decided. Then, in Saturday’s 76-61 non-conference win over Penn, Newman scored 39 points, hitting 11 two-point field goals, two 3-point baskets, and 15-of-19 from the free throw line. He also pulled down 15 rebounds and handed out four assists as the Vikings snapped their three-game losing streak and improved their season record to 8-3.
