The Centier Bank Performer of the Week is the Andrean volleyball team. On Saturday, the 59ers won the Class 2A volleyball state championship at the Worthen Arena on the campus of Ball State University by defeating Christian Academy, 25-20, 25-18, 26-24. The title was their first in volleyball and 12th overall in all sports.
Andrean (30-8) was credited with 20 block assists and set a Class 2A state record with 10 blocks in the match. Serena Wagner, Lauren Bartley, and Grace O’Brien notched five block assists each and Jenna Dal Santo set a Class 2A record with 23 kills, breaking the previous record of 21 set in 2011.
A special mention also goes out to Crown Point senior volleyball player Alex Equahua, who was selected as the Class 4A mental attitude winner for Class 4A volleyball. The Bulldogs (35-4) finished state runner-up for the second straight year with a 25-17, 15-17, 15-18 loss to Avon in the title match.
The Centier Bank Performer of the Week is open to any male-female student athlete who participates in any IHSAA sanctioned sport and whose school in the Centier Bank geographic area.
