The Centier Bank Performers of the Week are Valparaiso senior basketball player Brandon Newman and South Bend Riley senior basketball player Jalen Jennings.
In Friday’s 77-64 win over Lowell, the 6-foot-4 guard recorded a double-double by scoring 29 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Then, in Saturday’s 73-28 triumph over Kankakee Valley, the Purdue-bound Newman outscored the Kougars by himself with 32 points to surpass the 1,000-point mark for his career to help the No. 8 (Class 4A) Vikings to a 4-0 start.
In Tuesday’s 64-55 victory over South Bend Saint Joseph, the 5-foot-8 point-guard tallied 20 points, three assists, four steals, and a rebound. Then, in Friday’s 62-50 win at Mishawaka, he chipped in 18 points, six assists, and a steal. In helping the No. 9 (Class 4A) Wildcats to a 5-0 record, Jennings is averaging 19.4 points, 4.5 assists, 3.8 steals, and 2.4 rebounds.
The Centier Bank Performer of the Week is open to any male-female student athlete who participates in any IHSAA sanctioned sport and whose school is in the Centier Bank geographic area.
