The Centier Bank Performers of the Week are Culver Academy freshman wrestler Brennen Cernus, Portage senior wrestler Jacob Moran, Crown Point freshman wrestler Jesse Mendez, and Calumet senior wrestler Arthur Fowler.
In Saturday’s IHSAA state wrestling finals held at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Cernus (42-2) captured the 106-pound title with a 6-0 win over Alexzander Cottey (Perry Meridian). After winning the 106-pound crown a year ago, Moran (41-1) earned the 113-pound championship with a 3-0 decision over Zeke Seltzer (Indianapolis Cathedral). In the 126-pound finale, Mendez (46-0) downed Raymond Rioux (Avon), 6-0, while Fowler (47-2) pinned Lawson Aiken (Brownsburg) at the 5:48 mark to win the 220-pound title.
Special recognition also goes out to Jimtown senior wrestler Hunter Watts, who was the recipient of the IHSAA’s Ward E. Brown mental attitude award. Watts (45-3), who was the 2018 120-pound state champion, finished third in the 126-pound weight class this year.
The Centier Bank Performer of the Week is open to any male-female student athlete who participates in any IHSAA sanctioned sport and whose school is in the Centier Bank geographic area.
