Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of August 21 through 27. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Drew Sezonov, Taylor

Sezonov allowed just one goal in 200 minutes of work in the net for Taylor, picking up 10 saves and helping TU to a draw with Saint Francis (IL) and a shutout of Trinity Christian.

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Lewis Jones, Spring Arbor

Jones fueled No. 14 Spring Arbor’s 4-2 upset of No. 5 West Virginia Tech with one goal and one assist in the early-season clash. Jones assisted SAU’s first score, before netting the game-tying goal in the second half.

 

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Alex Seabeck, Indiana Wesleyan

Seabeck posted six saves and two victories in goal for Indiana Wesleyan, yielding just one score in 150 minutes of work and recording her 100th career victory for the Wildcats.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Bethany Balcer, Spring Arbor

Balcer scored three goals and added two assists to help No. 2 Spring Arbor earn a pair of victories. The two-time NAIA All-American moved into a tie for SAU’s most career goals with her 64th career strike.

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Nathan Bogle, Marian

Bogle teamed with Ian Deiters to claim the Marian Doubles Tournament A Flight Championship. The duo scored wins of 8-2, 8-6 and 8-3 on their way to the title.

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Maria Lueken, Marian

Lueken paired with Anna Taylor to win the Marian Doubles Tournament A Flight Championships on Saturday. Lueken and Taylor won the title with 8-3, 8-6 and 9-7 victories.

 

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Becca Gerig, Taylor

Gerig led Taylor to a 3-1 start, highlighted by a four-set win over No. 17 Jamestown. Gerig hit .378 with 3.2 kills, 1.9 digs and 0.4 aces per game, including an 18-kill, 12-dig double-double in TU’s upset victory.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Erin Carlos, Bethel

Carlos racked up 108 digs and 10 service aces to help Bethel win four-of-six matches on the week. Carlos turned in a pair of 20-plus dig showings and averaged 5.7 digs and 0.5 aces per game.

 

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Alexa Hill, Grace

Hill repeated as the CL Setter of the Week after piling up 177 assists, 41 digs and three double-doubles in four matches for Grace. The sophomore went for 45 assists and 12 digs in GC’s 3-1 win over No. 22 Lourdes.
