Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of September 18 through 24. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.

Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Johan Escalante, Goshen

Escalante posted zeroes in goal for Goshen over 157 minutes of work during a pair of wins, picking up a combined six saves in consecutive 3-0 victories for the Maple Leafs.

Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Stuart Aeschliman, Goshen

Aeschliman played a part in four-of-six scores for Goshen during a pair of 3-0 non-league victories. Aeschliman scored twice against IU East and had one goal and one assist against Indiana Tech.

 

Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Brenna Malatestinic, Marian

Malatestinic repeated as the CL’s top defensive player, after recording five saves and a shutout in No. 20 Marian’s 3-0 defeat of Rio Grande.

Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Brandi Spear, Huntington

Spear shredded the net with five goals over two matches for Huntington, posting the Foresters’ lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Lawrence Tech, before torching Bluffton for 4-0 goals in a blowout victory.

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Christen Jacquottet, Taylor

Jacquottet posted a 5-1 record for Taylor, helping the Trojans to a 2-1 team mark while manning the top of the TU lineup. Jacquottet went 2-1 at No. 1 singles and won all three contests at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Emily Mast, Grace

Mast remained unbeaten in singles play with a 3-0 clip at No. 1 for Grace. Mast also competed at No. 1 doubles for the Lancers, winning two-of-three matches for an overall mark of 5-1 during the week.

 

Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Morgan Miller, Indiana Wesleyan

Miller led RV Indiana Wesleyan to a five-set win against No. 25 Marian during a pivotal Crossroads League showdown between the league’s top-two teams. Miller posted 19 kills against the Knights and closed the week with 3.9 kills per set on a .343 percentage.

Volleyball Defender of the Week
Banner Rodgers, Indiana Wesleyan

Rodgers anchored RV IWU’s back row in wins against No. 25 Marian and Grace by scooping up 52 digs in the two matches. Rodgers’ week was highlighted with a career-high 32 digs and two aces in the Wildcats defeat of MU.

 

Volleyball Setter of the Week
Katelyn Dufur, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Dufur repeated as the CL Setter of the Week, after averaging 8.9 assists per set and helping MVNU to a 2-1 record. Dufur tossed up 71 assists in MVNU’s two league matches to help the Cougars past Taylor and Huntington and added a total of 26 digs.
