Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week

 

INDIANAPOLIS – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Monday, recognizing the top student-athletes from the week of April 17 through April 23. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.

 

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Brody Harris, Spring Arbor

Harris went 1-0 with a save and a complete game in SAU’s wins over MVNU and Marian. Harris hurled eight scoreless frames in the two games, walking none and allowing just three hits.

 

Baseball Player of the Week
Jaime Montero, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Montero batted .469 with 10 runs, seven extra-base hits and 19 RBI over seven games for the Cougars. Montero set MVNU’s program records with three homers and nine RBI in a 15-12 win at Bethel.

 

Softball Pitcher of the Week

Hannah Robbins, Taylor
Robbins tossed a four-hit shutout in RV Taylor’s 2-0 win over No. 4 Marian as one of two complete games and closed the week at 3-0 with a 0.70 ERA over 20 innings of work in the circle for the Trojans.

 

Softball Player of the Week
Davis Carter, Taylor

Carter slashed .438/.550/1.063/1.613 with six runs, three home runs and 10 RBI to help RV Taylor pick up four victories. In a 2-0 win over No. 4 Marian, Carter’s two-run dinger accounted for the only runs of the contest.

 

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Marty Pochop, Marian

Pochop closed his regular season with four more wins, going 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at No. 2 doubles in a pair of team victories for the RV Knights.

 

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Rachel Bottorff, Indiana Wesleyan

Bottorff was a perfect 6-0 on the week for No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan, leading the Wildcats to a trio of 9-0 wins by going 3-0 at No. 1 singles and 3-0 at No. 3 doubles.

 

Men’s Golf Player of the Week
Mitch Lamping, Taylor

Lamping won the Ackerman-Allen Classic with two-round total of 139 to finish at five-under par, helping No. 15 Taylor to its seventh team title of the year and a program-record 10-under par for the two-day event.

 

Women’s Golf Player of the Week
Maddie Thomas, Taylor

Thomas led Taylor to a pair of team wins by taking third at the Ackerman-Allen Classic and tying for first at the Rumble at the Rock. Thomas fired a 71 for TU’s second-ever under-par round.

 

Men’s Outdoor T/F Field Athlete of the Week
Jacob Brown, Grace

Brown earned All-Indiana Little State honors and hit the NAIA B standard with a toss of 52.29 meters in the hammer throw. Brown’s mark was also good for a new Grace record.

 

Men’s Outdoor T/F Track Athlete of the Week
Moussa Conde, Marian

Conde claimed second place in the 400-meter run with a time of 48.23 and 4×400-meter relay at 3:16.88, qualifying for NAIA Nationals and taking All-Indiana Little State honors in each event.

 

Women’s Outdoor T/F Field Athlete of the Week
Bethany Bailey, Indiana Wesleyan

Bailey cleared 3.85 in the pole vault for the fifth-best height in the NAIA this season, winning the event at the Indiana Little State Championships with an NAIA A standard performance.

 

Women’s Outdoor T/F Track Athlete of the Week
Raven Arellano, Grace

Arellano hit an NAIA A standard and set a new Grace record with a first-place time of 37:13.13 in the 10,000-meter run at the Little State Championships. Arellano also claimed All-Indiana Little State honors by taking second in the 5,000-meter run.
