Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week

 INDIANAPOLIS – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Monday, recognizing the top student-athletes from the week of March 27 through April 2. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Matt Burleton, Marian
Burleton fanned 13 Lancers in a complete-game shutout win against Grace. Burleton allowed three hits and walked only one in the victory.

 

Baseball Player of the Week
Dalton Combs, Huntington

Combs led RV Huntington to six victories as the Foresters claimed sole possession of first place in the CL standings. Combs was 12-of-23 with seven runs, five doubles, one homer, eight RBI and three steals in HU’s six games.

Softball Pitcher of the Week

Breena Smith, Marian
Smith helped No. 4 Marian remain perfect in league play by giving up one run over 14 innings in a pair of wins against SAU and Indiana Wesleyan. Smith fanned 16 and yielded only 11 hits.

Softball Player of the Week

Anna Gunderson, Taylor
Gunderson led Taylor to six wins to extend a program-best 11-game win streak by hitting .550 with one home run, two doubles and six runs driven in over 20 at bats.

Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

Alex Reinbold, Spring Arbor
Reinbold went 5-1 at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles for Spring Arbor to help the Cougars pick up wins over Concordia and Adrian.

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

Rachel Bottorff, Indiana Wesleyan

Bottorff went 7-1 at No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles for No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan, notching individual wins over the No. 23 and No. 46-ranked players in the NAIA, while helping IWU score wins over No. 14 Davenport and No. 23 Lewis Clark.

Men’s Golf Player of the Week

Alec Dutkowski, Taylor

Dutkowski tied No. 20 Taylor’s program-best, single-round score of 66, while carding a two-day score of four-under par to take second and help TU score a team win at the TPC Deere Run Invite.

Women’s Golf Player of the Week

Andrea Martin, Mount Vernon Nazarene

Martin finished first-of-nine golfers at the Mount Vernon Nazarene Spring Cougar Classic to help MVNU secure the team title.

Men’s Outdoor T/F Field Athlete of the Week

Joey McDonald, Mount Vernon Nazarene

McDonald led MVNU at the Wooster Invitational by scoring wins in the discus and javelin events. McDonald turned in marks of 44.77 in the discus and 45.87 in the javelin.

Men’s Outdoor T/F Track Athlete of the Week

Moussa Conde, Marian

Conde hit the NAIA A standard with a time of 14.67 in the 110-meter hurdles and clocked a B standard time of 41.69 as a member of Marian’s 4×100-meter relay team.

Women’s Outdoor T/F Field Athlete of the Week

Danielle Wojciechowski, Bethel

Wojciechowski set a new Bethel record and registered the best performance in the NAIA this season in the pole vault with a height of 3.95 meters at High Point.

Women’s Outdoor T/F Track Athlete of the Week

Corrine Melvin, Indiana Wesleyan

Melvin won three events at the Hanover Invite, topping the field in the 100 and 200-meter dashes and teaming up for a win in the 4×100-meter relay for Indiana Wesleyan.
