Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week

 INDIANAPOLIS – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Monday, recognizing the top student-athletes from the week of April 24 through April 30. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Tim Olvaney, Indiana Wesleyan
Olvaney earned the win in IWU’s 2-1 upset of No. 24 Huntington, holding the Foresters without an earned run and to just three hits over five innings of work.

Baseball Player of the Week

Andrew Kennedy, Taylor
Kennedy slashed .583/.583/1.167/1.750 with four extra-base hits, seven runs batted in and a trio of three-hit games to help Taylor go 3-0 against Lourdes and Grace.

Softball Pitcher of the Week

Breena Smith, Marian
Smith went 2-0 with 18 strikeouts in 13 innings, while allowing one run on three hits in No. 4 MU’s wins over Grace and IWU. Against the Wildcats, Smith fanned 15 without issuing a walk over eight innings during a one-hit shutout victory.

Softball Player of the Week

Casey Lehman, Huntington
Lehman batted .667 and collected five doubles, one triple, two home runs and eight RBI, while scoring eight times to help HU to a 6-0 week. In a 15-2 win on Saturday, Lehman hit for the cycle.

Men’s Golf Player of the Week

Jake Coffey, Indiana Wesleyan

Coffey took medalist honors after tying for first at the Crossroads League Championships. Coffey shot a three-round score of 271, firing a 71 on each of the final two rounds.

Men’s Outdoor T/F Field Athlete of the Week

Macallister Seitz, Grace

Seitz hit the NAIA A standard and won the discus with a toss of 49.39 meters and finished third in the hammer at Grace’s first-ever home track and field meet.

Men’s Outdoor T/F Track Athlete of the Week

Joel Zook, Grace

Zook claimed three wins at Grace’s first-ever home meet, topping the field in the 400-meter run as well as the 4×100 and 4×400-meter relays.

Women’s Outdoor T/F Field Athlete of the Week

Bethany Kuenzer, Spring Arbor

Kuenzer claimed second in the pole vault at the Hillsdale Gina Relays, clearing 3.61 meters to hit the NAIA A standard with the 14th-best mark in the nation this season.

Women’s Outdoor T/F Track Athlete of the Week

Caitlyn Hughey, Goshen

Hughey scored first-place finishes in the 100 and 200-meter dashes and claimed second on Goshen’s 4×400-meter relay team at the Grace Lancer Invite.
