Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week

 INDIANAPOLIS – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Monday, recognizing the top student-athletes from the week of May 8 through May 14. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.

 

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Zack St. Pierre, Marian

St. Pierre pitched the Knights into the NAIA National Tournament with 6.1 strong frames to earn a win in MU’s 5-2 CL Tournament victory over Goshen. St. Pierre fanned eight and allowed only two runs.

 

Baseball Player of the Week
Preston Carr, Goshen

Carr fueled Goshen’s CL Tournament run by going nine-for-12 at the plate, including a three-homer game in GC’s 14-4 upset of Marian that moved the Maple Leafs within a single win of the NAIA Tournament.

 

Softball Pitcher of the Week

Breena Smith, Marian
Smith fired a pair of shutout victories at RV Indiana Wesleyan to help No. 4 Marian clinch the CL Tournament Championship. Smith posted 14 strikeouts and allowed only three hits and three walks over the 14 scoreless frames to help MU win 2-0 and 1-0.

 

Softball Player of the Week
Alex Lovelace, Taylor

Lovelace had nine hits in 11 at bats, adding five runs, four doubles and two RBI to help Taylor advance deep into the CL Tournament. Lovelace batted .818 with a 1.182 slugging percentage in the three contests last week.

 

Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Olivia Reed, Indiana Wesleyan

Reed went 5-1 for No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan at the NCCAA National Championships, going 3-0 at No. 5 singles and 2-1 at No. 2 doubles for the Wildcats.

 

Men’s Outdoor T/F Field Athlete of the Week
Brennan Coil, Indiana Wesleyan

Coil hit a pair of NAIA A standards in the shot put and discus and moved into the top-10 in the nation in each event. Coil won the shot and took fourth in the discus at the Dr. Keeler Invite.

 

Men’s Outdoor T/F Track Athlete of the Week
Jacob Reinking, Indiana Wesleyan

Reinking ran the fifth-best time in the NAIA this season and finished fifth-of-83 in the 5,000-meter run at the Dr. Keeler Invite, hitting the NAIA A standard and breaking the IWU record with a time of 14:23.68.

 

Women’s Outdoor T/F Field Athlete of the Week
Brianna Jordahl, Taylor

Jordahl hit the NAIA B standard with a Taylor-record toss of 49.74 meters in the hammer throw at the Hillsdale Last Chance Meet.

 

Women’s Outdoor T/F Track Athlete of the Week
Sarah McBeath, Indiana Wesleyan

McBeath claimed third-of-51 in the 1,500-meter run at the Dr. Keeler Invite for Indiana Wesleyan, setting a program record, hitting the NAIA A standard and logging the ninth-best time in the NAIA this season with a mark of 4:33.07.
