Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS – The Crossroads League announced its athletes of the week on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of August 14 through 20. In order to be considered for the award, a student-athlete must be nominated by their institution’s Sports Information Director.
Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Phillip Keller (Bethel)
Keller picked up seven saves in net for Bethel, helping the Pilots to a season-opening, 2-1, overtime victory at Cardinal Stritch.
Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Morris Kamara (Spring Arbor)
Kamara logged his first career hat trick in No. 14 Spring Arbor’s season-opening, 4-1, win at Trinity International. The junior forward struck twice in the first five minutes and added an insurance goal in the second half.
Volleyball Attacker of the Week
Kelsee Zuidema (Grace)
Zuidema led Grace to a 3-1 mark with 4.2 kills per set and a .321 attack percentage at the net. The junior slammed 22 kills in 47 swings against Brescia, eclipsed double-figure kills in three-of-four matches and collected at least five digs in all four.
Volleyball Defender of the Week
Ashley Gingerich (Mount Vernon Nazarene)
Gingerich earned all-tournament honors for MVNU after averaging 7.29 digs per set over the first four matches of the season. Last year’s CL Libero of the Year tallied 102 digs in the four matches, including 33 against Spring Arbor and had two other outings with at least 24.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Alexa Hill (Grace)
Hill helped Grace to a fast start with 145 assists, 27 digs, eight kills and two blocks from her setter position. The sophomore’s 10.4 assists per set were highlighted by a 60-assist effort in Grace’s five-set win over Brescia.
