Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | February 11-17

 

AVON, Ohio – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the top athletes from the week of February 11 through 17. Sports Information Directors from the league nominate student-athletes for the award and vote on each week’s winners.

Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Wes Stowers, Marian

Stowers led No. 11 Marian to wins over No. 5 IWU and No. 6 MVNU by averaging 31.0 points and 6.5 assists per victory, while shooting 64.1 percent from the floor and 53.8 percent from deep. Stowers scored 26 in an 89-85 win at MVNU and added 36 to topple IWU by a 94-84 margin.

Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Kendall Bradbury, Taylor

Bradbury became the Crossroads League’s all-time leading scorer with 2,700 points and helped No. 8 Taylor claim a share of the CL Championship by averaging 31.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in two wins. Bradbury shot 59.5 percent for the week and scored 40 points at Goshen.

 

Men’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Travis Sperry, Bethel

Sperry scored NCCAA National Championships in the 4×200-meter relay and 400-meters, while taking second in the 4×400-meter relay.


Men’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Jordan Downs, Bethel

Downs earned a sixth Athlete-of-the-Week nod in as many weeks during indoor season, winning the long jump and pole vault at the NCCAA Championships with meet-record performances. Downs also won the 4×200-meter relay and took second in the 200-meters.

 

Women’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Emma Jankowski, Bethel

Jankowski posted NAIA A standards in the 800-meters and distance-medley relay at the NCCAA National Championships, breaking the Bethel program record in the DMR and winning the NCCAA Championship in the event.


Women’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Danielle Wojciechowski, Bethel

Wojciechowski hit the NAIA A standard in the pole vault with a height of 3.79 meters to claim the NCCAA Indoor National Championship.

 

Baseball Player of the Week
Cody Earl, Marian

Earl swatted four extra-base hits, including two home runs and drove in eight runs to fuel Marian’s series win against Selma. Earl batted .385, scored four times and posted a slugging percentage of 1.077 in the three games.

 

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Matt Burleton, Marian

Burleton fanned nine batters in six innings over two days to earn a win in MU’s 13-1 victory over Selma. The lefty allowed only three hits and one walk in the outing.
