Crossroads League Announces Athletes of the Week | January 27-February 2
JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Athletes of the Week were announced on Monday, recognizing the league’s top individual performances from January 27 through February 2. Sports Information Directors from the league institutions nominate student-athletes for the awards and vote on each week’s winners.
Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Abbey McNally, Marian
McNally was a force for No. 15 Marian in its wins over Spring Arbor and Taylor, scoring 25 points in each game and shooting 65.6-percent from the floor. McNally hauled in 18 rebounds against TU for a double-double and averaged 13.5 caroms per game for the week.
Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Abbey McNally, Marian
McNally dominated the paint for No. 15 Marian on both ends of the court in lopsided wins over Spring Arbor and Taylor. In addition to pouring in 25.0 points per game, the junior added 13.5 rebounds, 5.0 blocks and 3.0 assists per outing.
Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Ian Scott, Grace
Scott was nearly flawless in No. 12 Grace’s victories against RV Indiana Wesleyan and Spring Arbor. The senior made 20-of-23 shots from the field and averaged 24.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per contest.
Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Milton Gage, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Gage helped Mount Vernon Nazarene to wins over Taylor and Goshen by picking up four steals against TU and five against GC. Along with averaging 4.5 thefts per game, Gage helped MVNU hold its foes to 72.0 points per outing.
Women’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Noel VanderWall, Taylor
VanderWall scored a win in the 3,000-meters and hit two qualifying marks for Taylor at the IWU Midwest Classic. VanderWall’s A-standard in the 4×800-meter relay was the second-fastest time in the NAIA this season, while her 3,000-meter time was also in the top-10.
Women’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Lyssi Snouffer, Mount Vernon Nazarene
Snouffer won the high jump for Mount Vernon Nazarene at the Indiana Wesleyan Midwest Classic. The senior cleared 1.71 meters to top the field and automatically qualify for NAIA Nationals.
Men’s Indoor TF Track Athlete of the Week
Zach Collins, Huntington
Collins posted the fifth-best time in the NAIA this season in the 200-meters and the seventh-best mark in the 400-meters at the SVSU Invitational. The senior picked up wins and NAIA A-standards in each race.
Men’s Indoor TF Field Athlete of the Week
Christian Rios, Marian
Rios was back at it at the IWU Midwest Classic, anchoring Marian in the throwing events by winning the weight throw and taking second in the shot put. Rios hit the NAIA B-standard in each event.
Women’s Bowler of the Week
Kayla Tafanelli, Spring Arbor
Tafanelli topped the field at the final CL Bowling Tournament of the regular season, helping Spring Arbor secure the CL Championship. The sophomore took first with a 220.0 average and 662 total pins.
Men’s Bowler of the Week
Cody Hall, Spring Arbor
Hall had the hot hand for Spring Arbor in the fourth and final Crossroads League Bowling Tournament of the regular season, leading the field with 673 total pins. Hall’s 224 scoring average helped SAU to a second-place team finish at the event.
