Crossroads League Trio Earns Softball All-American Honors

KANSAS CITY – Following their runs to the 2017 NAIA Softball World Series, Marian and Indiana Wesleyan combined to place three student-athletes on the NAIA All-America Team.
Marian took home a pair of honors from its dominant pitching staff, with Crossroads League Pitcher of the Year, Breena Smith, earning First-Team All-American honors and fellow All-Crossroads League hurler Grace Lumpkin making the Honorable Mention All-American list. The duo combined for a 45-4 record in the circle for MU, with Smith posting a 0.96 earned-run average and Lumpkin ending with a 1.17 ERA.
Indiana Wesleyan also claimed an honor, as Crossroads League Player of the Year, Kaisey Carson, joined Smith as a First-Team All-American. Carson led the NAIA with 27 doubles and 3.3 total bases per game and ranked inside the top-five in a host of other statistical categories. The all-around player finished with a .491 average, 20 home runs, 49 extra-base hits and a 1.452 OPS at the plate, while winning 24 games with a 1.97 ERA in the circle.
