LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 1 Southeastern University baseball team cleaned up Sun Conference weekly honors this week. Senior left-handed pitcher Felix Dieguez was named The Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week, while senior infielder Ivan Nunez earned the distinction of being Player of the Week.
Dieguez pitched a gem in the opening game against No. 21 Warner this past Friday, allowing just two hits through seven innings pitched. The senior struck out eight as WU batters hit .091 off of him in the 10-0 run-rule victory. Dieguez is now 4-0 on the year with a 1.24 ERA.
Nunez recorded hits in all four competitions last week. The senior launched long balls in each of the games played against No. 21 Warner, sparking comebacks in both contests on Saturday. In the series finale, Nunez hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth to cut into a two-run deficit that eventually became a 4-2 lead. The Miami native finished the week with seven RBI and five extra base hits, including a pair of 3-4 performances.
The Fire return to Sun Conference play this weekend, as Southeastern travels to Ave Maria for a weekend series against the Ave Maria University Gyrenes. Game one of the series is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m.
