LAKELAND, Fla.—The men’s tennis season came to a close with a 7-2 defeat versus Warner University on Wednesday. Southeastern finished the year with a 2-11 record after the loss.

Thomas Ortega and Felipe Barbosa began the match with a dominating performance at no. 2 singles to put the Fire up 1-0. The duo cruised to an 8-1 decision, notching their eighth triumph as a pairing and claiming the top SEU doubles record on the year (8-5). After the Royals tied the match at one, Lucca Marcheschi and Hugo Pires collected a huge 8-6 victory over Warner’s highest ranked doubles team.

Southeastern headed into singles play with a 2-1 advantage.

Despite the Fire’s success in two doubles contests, Warner was able to sweep singles play with six wins in straight sets, which allowed the Royals to take the match by a score of 7-2.

Barbosa and Hugo Pires each registered wins in eight games for the Fire, a team-high in individual competition on the day.

Senior Aaron Skingley ended his final season of collegiate tennis with eight combined victories on the year, while Matthew Scales also wrapped up his senior season in the contest.
