LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern University wrestling coach Javier Maldonado has announced the signing of Wyatt Kirkham to a letter of intent to join the Fire in the fall of 2019.
Kirkham comes to SEU from Jensen Beach High School where he was the program’s all-time wins leader and a three-time state placer. He was a four time district champion and two time regional champion. As a senior, he finished third at the state championship.
“I chose Southeastern because it was a good fit for me I like the coaches and like the school,” said Kirkham. I’m grateful for the chance to continue my career and it will be more fun and easier for me with my brother on the team.”
Kirkham joins his brother Kyle, a 2019 NAIA Nationals qualifier on the roster.
“He comes from a great family and a great program where he’s already received great coaching,” said Maldonado. “He knows wrestling and is able to scramble and find ways to win, and gives us another tough guy in the room.”
The Fire are coming off of a 12-7 record in dual meets last season, placed fifth at the NWCA Team Duals, and were 19th at NAIA Nationals.
