Grace beaten by MVNU on the road
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – Grace’s men’s basketball team could not keep pace with Mt. Vernon Nazarene, losing 97-74 on Tuesday.
The Lancers (5-5, 0-2 Crossroads League) shot 36 percent for the game and were outrebounded by 20 on the night.
The Cougars (6-3, 1-1 CL) hit 59 percent of their shots as a team, including 11-of-19 from beyond the arc.
Grace was only outscored by six in the second half, but the first half doomed the Lancers.
The Lancers fell behind by 10 just 10 minutes into the game, and the Cougars pulled ahead 51-34 by halftime. Grace struggled offensively by shooting 32 percent, including 1-of-9 from the 3-point line.
Grace was unable to mount a serious comeback bid in the second half as MVNU won by 23.
The Lancers placed four players in double-digit scoring. Erik Bowen tallied 15 points and seven rebounds, and Matt Jennings scored 13 off the bench.
Haden Deaton tallied 12 points, and Jaret Sons added 10 points with a pair of 3-pointers.
Logan Godfrey had eight points and five boards, and Stephen Halstead chipped in six points.
The Lancers will end the week with two games. Thursday features a home game for Grace against Great Lakes Christian at 7 p.m., followed by Saturday’s matchup at archrival Bethel at 3 p.m.
