Holy Cross College Men’s Soccer Falls to Trinity Christian College in Semi-Final Heartbreaker

The Holy Cross College Saints men’s soccer team battled fiercely in their semi-final match against Trinity Christian College but ultimately fell short in a close 1-0 defeat. The match was intense from start to finish, with both teams demonstrating exceptional defensive organization and skill on the ball.
Throughout the game, Holy Cross fought to control possession, creating several promising chances but was held back by Trinity’s steadfast defense and a standout performance from their goalkeeper. The Saints’ own defensive line remained resilient, effectively shutting down Trinity’s attacks for most of the match, despite playing a man down for 50 minutes of the match. However, in the final minutes of the match, Trinity capitalized on a scoring opportunity, putting the only goal of the game past Holy Cross’s keeper.
Despite the outcome, the Saints displayed immense heart and determination, representing Holy Cross College with pride. This season has been marked by growth, perseverance, and countless memorable moments for the Saints, and although they fell short of the championship, the team’s spirit remains unbroken.
As we conclude this season, we extend our deepest gratitude to our graduating seniors: Marin von Thun (Grimma, Germany / Wilhelm Bracke Comprehensive School), Isaac Filippo (St. Joseph, MI / Marian University’s Ancilla), Juan Perez (Logansport, IN / Logansport HS), Kevin Vidana (Rio Rancho, NM / Lincoln College), Archimed Sabu (Kinshasa, Congo / Normal West HS), Ramon Gomez (Barcelona, Spain / Presentation College), and manager Abby Padilla! These players have contributed immensely to the team over the years, both on and off the field, leaving a legacy of dedication and teamwork that has strengthened the Holy Cross soccer program. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors and know they will carry the Saints’ spirit with them.
We would also like to thank the rest of the team and Head Coach Omar Gallo for making this season an exciting journey. The progress and passion demonstrated this year set a solid foundation, and we’re eager to see what they accomplish next season.
Coaches Quote:
“First, I want to take this time and congratulate Coach Gabe and TCC for their win. Despite playing a man down for 50+ minutes, I really thought our guys did exceptionally well, and we had moments to tie or win even with the man down. Throughout the season, our team dealt with a lot of adversity. There were moments throughout the year when we were really challenged. Whether it was missing players due to cards, injuries, or not having the ball bounce our way, we experienced it. When we went down a man, our guys did a tremendous job keeping their composure, so there was no concern from the sideline. It was unfortunate, but I felt that since we came this far, we could overcome it. The reality is that this one hurts, but it’s also another opportunity to become better versions of ourselves and grow. At the end of the day, all it takes is one moment, one play, and one goal, and we just found ourselves on the wrong side of that.
I want to take this opportunity to thank our entire coaching staff, especially coach Joe, who has been one of the best additions to this program. Thank you to our team manager Abby who always made our lives easier. It’s the little things she did for the team that allowed everyone to focus on soccer, and that’s something we will miss. To our seniors, thank you for putting HC back on the map. I’m extremely proud of the men you’ve all become and am grateful for what you leave behind. To our returning players, what a great group we have coming back. Our sophomores and juniors have grown to become better players and leaders, and our freshmen class has a tons of potential. Thank you to the entire student body, our faculty and staff, and to our women’s soccer program for always supporting. Lastly, thank you to my family. You are always there to celebrate the, good times and support during the difficult times.
Thank you to the 2024-2025 men’s soccer team. We’ll be back!” – Omar Gallo
