Illinois, Indiana and Michigan Earn Baseball Weekly Honors

Illinois’ Spillane named Player of the Week; Indiana’s Stiever claims Pitcher of the Week recognition; Michigan’s Nwogu tabbed Freshman of the Week

 

Player of the Week
Bren Spillane, Illinois

1B – Jr. – Wheeling, Ill. – Wheeling

 

  • Paced the Illini to a 3-1 record on the weekend, with wins over Milwaukee and Southern Illinois
  • Led Illinois in batting average (.600), slugging (1.333), on-base percentage (.667), homers (3), hits (9), total bases (20) and steals (2) for the week
  • Recorded a career-high three hits in back-to-back games
  • Hit three home runs at Southern Illinois on Saturday, becoming just the 11th Division I player this season to hit three homers in a game and the first Illini to hit three homers in a game since Casey Fletcher in 2014
  • The Academic All-Big Ten honoree wins his first career Big Ten Player of the Week award

  • Threw 6.0 scoreless innings to earn his second-straight win in the Hoosiers’ victory against Northern Illinois
  • Allowed only two hits, while striking out six
  • Has allowed just 14 hits over his last 19.2 innings, striking out 25 while allowing four earned runs
  • The Academic All-Big Ten honoree records his first career Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honor

Freshman of the Week
Jordan Nwogu, Michigan

  • Recorded multiple hits in all three games of his collegiate debut this weekend, helping the Wolverines sweep Bowling Green
  • Led the Wolverines with a 1.097 slugging percentage, .692 on-base percentage and a .636 batting average
  • Hit .636 on the week, going 7-for-11 with three runs scored, two doubles, a homer and eight RBI
  • Wins his first Big Ten Freshman of the Week award
