SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Indiana University South Bend men’s basketball team shot a season-high from three-point territory Wednesday evening, Feb. 12, as the Titans rolled to a 102-71 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Calumet College of St. Joseph during Titan Birthday Bash inside the Student Activities Center.
With the win, IUSB saw its record improve to 20-8 overall and 14-6 in CCAC play. The 20-win season is just the second time in men’s basketball program history that a IUSB squad reached 20 or more wins in a single-season and first time under seventh-year head coach Scott Cooper.
Senior Kourtlandt Martin led the way with a team-high 25 points while junior guard Dylan Allen finished with career-high 22 points and needs just nine points to reach his 1000th in his lustrous career. Sophomore guard Donyell Meredith II came off the bench to tack on 15 points and junior Norell Smith finished the double digit scoring for the Titans with 10.
The Crimson Wave were able to keep the game close at 24-22 in the first half until Indiana University South Bend used a 35-11 run over the final nine minutes spanning into the half to secure a 59-33 lead into the locker room.
The Titans were hot in the first 20 minutes of play, going 11-for-20 from behind the arc, and 22-for-34 from the floor that led into the second half. IUSB converted on a season-high 17 made three-pointers during the game to help aid the 31-point victory and its third straight to stay in the top-three of the CCAC standings.
For the game, IU South Bend shot 39-of-67 (58.2 percent) from the field and 17-of-35 (48.6 percent) from three-point range. CCSJ finished shooting 25-of-66 (37.9 percent) from the floor including just 5-of27 (18.5 percent) from long distance.
IUSB held a commanding edge over CCSJ in assists, 22-6, bench points, 33-11, and rebounds, 42-30, improving on its home record this season as the Titans are now 12-2 in South Bend, Ind.
The Titans hit the road for one last time in the regular-season, traveling to Milwaukee, Wisc. to face Cardinal Stritch University on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 4:00 P.M. (EST). IU South Bend will host No. 22 Saint Xavier University on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 3:00 P.M. inside the Student Activities Center to honor its three seniors in Miguel Mahan, Kourtlandt Martin and Myles Simmons.
