Baseball Claims Series Win over Grace
WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan University baseball and Grace (Ind.) split a doubleheader on Tuesday. IWU won last Tuesday to win two of three from the Lancers on the season. Grace won the opener 3-1 but Indiana Wesleyan took the rubber game by an 11-1 margin.
GAME 1 – Grace def. Indiana Wesleyan, 3-1
Tye Thixton led off the second inning with a home run to give Indiana Wesleyan a 1-0 lead. Thixton finished the game 3-for-3 and accounted for half of the IWU hits in the game.
Grace answered in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run by Ethan Brooks to tie the game 1-1. Brooks and Jacob Sapp hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning for the 3-1 lead. All four runs in the game were by solo home runs.
Kyle Hall was solid in a complete game effort on the mound. He threw 80 pitches in the 6.0 innings of work and allowed three runs on six hits. Hall struck out five Lancers.
GAME 2 – Indiana Wesleyan def. Grace, 11-1 (7 innings)
Indiana Wesleyan led 2-1 heading into the sixth inning and then plated eight runs for the 10-1 lead. Seven of the runs came with two outs in the inning. Ethan English had the big hit in the frame with a grand slam and two pitches later Caleb Eder hit a home run.
The Wildcats produced 15 hits in the win and drew six walks. Ethan English was the highlight of the game with a 3-for-5 effort with two home runs and six RBIs. Lucas Goodin added a 3-for-4 game with two doubles and two RBIs while Caleb Eder was 2-for-3 with a home run and two base on balls.
IWU pitching was outstanding as Tyler Wynkoop earned the win in 5.0 innings of work. He allowed one run on four hits and struck out five. Johnny Rohde pitched the final 2.0 innings and did not allow a run or a hit.
NEXT FOR THE WILDCATS
Indiana Wesleyan travels to Taylor on Friday to open a three game weekend series. First pitch in Upland is 6 p.m. The teams play a doubleheader on Saturday with a 2 p.m. start time.
