Baseball Drops Series Opener at Spring Arbor

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Spring Arbor (Mich.) scored a pair of first inning runs en route to a 3-1 win over Indiana Wesleyan University baseball on Thursday in Spring Arbor, Michigan. Jon Young pitched well in a complete game loss to fall to 4-2 on the mound this season.

ON THE BUMP
Jon Young threw all eight innings for the Wildcats for his second complete game in 2019. He allowed three runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out seven Cougars.

SCORING DETAIL
Spring Arbor plated two runs in the first inning and added another run in the fourth inning to build a 3-0 advantage. Indiana Wesleyan rallied in the sixth inning after the first two batters of the inning were retired. Lucas Goodin singled home Tye Thixton but the rally ended with a fielder’s choice that stranded a pair of Wildcats.

STREAK STARTER
Parker Johnson has started the past six games for the Wildcats – five starts at shortstop and one at second base. Johnson has a hit in all six games and leads the team during that time with a .381 average and .500 on-base percentage.

COACH BENJAMIN SAYS…
“Jon adjusted well and pitched competitively through eight innings. Our hitters had several loud outs and had about 50-percent quality at bats. On most days, that QAB number is enough score crooked numbers. Of the 35 at bats today, I thought we could have hit better in counts with four of them. The other 31, guys attacked the game and played it well. If we continue to hit the ball hard our guys will be rewarded.”

NEXT FOR THE WILDCATS
Indiana Wesleyan and Spring Arbor wrap up the series on Saturday in Spring Arbor. First pitch for the doubleheader is at 1 p.m.
