GOSHEN, Ind. – No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan University men’s basketball suffered a 66-65 loss to Goshen (Ind.) on Saturday in Goshen, Indiana. Demarkus Stuckey hit a game-winning 3-pointer with 1.8 seconds left to lift the Maple Leafs to the upset victory.
WILD FINISH
Goshen led by four points with 3:07 to play before Indiana Wesleyan reeled off six straight points to lead 63-61 with 1:14 to go. Stuckey hit a pair of free throws to tie the score with 31 seconds left. Goshen decided to purposely foul Joel Okafor with 23 seconds on the clock and the senior hit both free throws for the 65-63 advantage to set up the game-winning 3-pointer by Stuckey.
OFFENSIVE WOES
Indiana Wesleyan’s 65 points is the lowest output of the season, which was previously 71 points in a loss at Saint Francis (Ind.). IWU shot a season-low 43.8-percent (21 of 48) from the field and tied a season-low with 20.0-percent (4 of 20) from 3-point range. IWU did not connect on a 3-point attempt in eight second half attempts.
LONG TIME COMING
The Maple Leafs snap a 19-game losing streak to the Wildcats. The last Maple Leafs win in the series was a 68-58 win on November 24, 2009. It is the first Maple Leaf win at home vs. the Wildcats since December 1, 2007 – snapping a 10 game streak in Gunden Gym.
