MVNU Scores Late in Comeback Win over Baseball
MARION, Ind. – Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) scored 11 times in the final two innings to earn an 11-3 come-from-behind victory over Indiana Wesleyan University baseball on Monday. The Wildcats scored twice in the 1st inning and held that lead all the way until the 8th inning.
LATE RUNS
All 11 Mount Vernon Nazarene runs came in the 8th and 9th innings. MVNU trailed 2-0 in the 8th when the Cougars pushed across seven runs in the frame on five hits, four walks, and one hit batter. Mount Vernon Nazarene sent 12 batters to the plate in the inning. The visitors tacked on four more runs in the 9th inning on five hits and one error.
EDER DOMINATES THRU 7
Starting pitcher Caleb Eder was fantastic on the mound for the Wildcats thru 7.0 innings. He scattered four hits and did not allow a run until the 8th inning. MVNU was finally able to knock Eder out of the game in the 8th inning as they scored five runs against the senior hurler.
BAT ON THE BALL
Despite the score, Indiana Wesleyan managed 12 hits in the game which one only one fewer than MVNU. Ethan English led the Wildcats with three hits while Lucas Goodin, Tanner Killian, and Parker Johnson all added a pair of hits. Steven Busby and Tye Thixton both reached base twice with a single and walk.
HOME OPENER
In the 28th game of the season, Indiana Wesleyan finally played at home in front of an IWU crowd. Multiple home dates have been postponed due to rain and cold conditions.
NEXT FOR THE WILDCATS
Indiana Wesleyan and Mount Vernon Nazarene complete the three-game series on Tuesday at Wildcat Field. The teams play a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
