No. 22 Taylor Opens Season with Rout of Lourdes

SYLVANIA, Ohio – The TU women’s soccer team opened its 2017 season with an offensive explosion, tallying five second-half goals en route to a 6-0 triumph at Lourdes on Saturday night.

Senior midfielder Megan Kammer opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 26th minute to give the 22nd-ranked Trojans a 1-0 lead at the intermission.

TU did not allow Lourdes (0-1) to attempt a single shot in the first half, while taking 10 shots of its own.

At the 51:01 mark, Nikki Zaino added Taylor’s second goal of the contest, which was quickly followed by Bailey Zehr’s strike from Zaino in the 53rd minute to make it a 3-0 Trojan lead.

Freshman Jourdan Lehman assisted Hannah Davis and Zaino on the next two scores, with Rebekah Schwulst’s goal in the 77th minute capped the TU offensive surge.

The Trojans finished the contest with a 25-2 advantage in shots over the hosts.

Zaino’s five points tied a single-game career-high, while the two assists from Lehman were the first two of her collegiate career.

No. 22 Taylor (1-0) will return to the pitch Friday, September 1, for its home-opener against Roosevelt (0-1).
