No. 7 Marian Sweeps Taylor in Crossroads League Opener

INDIANAPOLIS – The Taylor softball team fell in a pair of games at No. 7 Marian on Thursday to open its Crossroads League schedule, as the Knights took the first game, 10-4, and the second game, 6-0.

The first tilt saw Marian (11-1, 2-0 CL) jump out to a 6-0 lead after a five-run second frame. TU cracked the scoreboard in the third inning on an RBI single by Hannah Castor. MU added another run in the bottom of the third to make it 7-1.

In the top of the sixth, Davis Carter’s two-run home run and Dani Wyse’s solo shot brought the Trojans within three, trailing just 7-4.

Marian tacked on three more in the bottom of the sixth and kept Taylor off the board in the seventh to take the first game, 10-4.

The second contest was a 1-0 pitcher’s duel in favor of Marian entering the bottom of the sixth, but the seventh-ranked Knights tallied five runs in the home-half of the inning to stretch the lead to 6-0 and then held the Trojans scoreless in the top of the seventh for the doubleheader sweep of TU.

Alex Lovelace and Courtney Moriarty each posted three hits on the afternoon to pace Taylor offensively.

TU (8-9, 0-2 CL) will host Mount Vernon Nazarene (6-6, 0-0 CL) in its first home Crossroads League doubleheader of the season on Saturday, with the first pitch slated for 1:00 pm.
