Ohio State Earns Four-Set Win Against Southern Indiana Friday
Emily Londot moved up to third among the program’s all-time career kills leaders in the win.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s volleyball team (3-0) beat Southern Indiana (2-2) in four sets (25-12, 20-25, 25-17, 26-24) on Friday in its opening match at the Florida Invitational.

The Buckeyes opened scoring in the match and didn’t look back, cruising to a 25-12 win in the first set. The second set featured 13 ties and six lead changes as the Eagles scored the final five points of the set to even the match at one set apiece with a 25-20 set win. Ohio State trailed at only one point (10-9) in the third set on its way to a 25-17 set win. USI hung around and tied the fourth set at 24 before back-to-back OSU points wrapped up the match with a 26-24 set win.

Emily Londot was the first in the match to 10 kills and recorded a match-high 19 today, passing Danielle Meyer on Ohio State’s all-time career kills leader list as Londot is now third. Olivia Hasbrook was the first in the match to 10 digs and matched her career-high 17 digs in the match. Grace Egan (13), Eloise Brandewie (10) and Rylee Rader (12) also recorded 10+ kills for the Buckeyes as the four of them (including Londot) all totaled at least 10 kills apiece for the second-consecutive match. Mia Tuman finished with 47 assists.

How it Happened
Ohio State scored first on a kill from Rylee Rader. The Buckeyes used runs of 4-0 and 5-0 to open up a 15-4 lead and force a Southern Indiana timeout. OSU strung together another 5-0 run to extend its lead to 21-5 and prompt a second USI timeout. The Buckeyes wrapped up a 25-12 set win on an error from USI.

The second set was tight early as the teams were tied at every point through nine before a 3-0 USI run gave the Eagles an 11-9 lead. Ohio State called timeout trailing 14-11 and trailed by as many as four at 15-11. The Buckeyes rattled off the next six points to take a 17-15 lead and used a 3-0 run, capped by a pair of aces from Kaitlyn Hoffman, to take a 21-18 lead and force a USI timeout. The Eagles scored the final five points of the set to tie the match with a 25-20 set win.

Rader got things going in the third set with her eighth kill of the afternoon as the set was tied early and often. USI claimed its first lead of the set at 10-9 following a 3-0 run, but OSU responded with an extended 7-1 run to take a 16-11 lead on a kill from Mia Tuman. The Buckeyes used a pair of 3-0 runs to create separation and fought off a late Eagles push to claim a 25-17 set win.

Londot opened scoring in the fourth set with her 14th kill of the match and the Buckeyes built an early 9-6 lead. USI responded with a 5-0 run to take the 11-9 lead. The set was tied at points 11 through 14 and OSU headed into the media timeout with a 15-14 advantage. A 5-0 Buckeye run, fueled by three-consecutive Londot aces, gave Ohio State the 18-14 lead. USI got within one at 19-18 and 24-23 before an OSU timeout. The Eagles tied the set at 24 but the Buckeyes closed the match with back-to-back points.

Match Notes
• This is the second-consecutive match that Eloise Brandewie, Grace Egan, Emily Londot and Rylee Rader totaled 10+ kills apiece.
• Londot was the first in the match to record 10 kills and has double-figure kills in all three matches this season. Londot’s eight kills in the third set propelled her to a season-high 19 kills to lead the match. She also recorded a season-high three aces.
• Londot now has 1,762 career kills, passing Danielle Meyer’s 1,760 career kills to become third in the Buckeyes’ program history.
• Olivia Hasbrook was the first in the match to reach 10 digs and tied her career-high 17 digs to lead the match. She’s recorded at least 10 digs in all three matches this season. Hasbrook also tied her career-high three aces.
• Egan has also recorded at least 10 kills in all three matches this season, finishing with 13 kills today.
• Mia Tuman has averaged at least 10 assists/set in each of the three matches this season, finishing with 47 assists today. She also tied her career-high four kills.
• Brandewie reached double-figure kills for the second-consecutive match, totaling 10 kills.
• Rader also recorded 10+ kills for the second-straight match, finishing with 12 kills.
• Kaitlyn Hoffman totaled a career-high four aces, including back-to-back aces in the second set.
• S1: The Buckeyes did not trail in the set and outhit Southern Indiana .393-.033.
• S2: The second set featured 13 ties and six lead changes.
• S3: Ohio State only trailed at one point (10-9) throughout the set but responded with an extended 7-1 run to take a lead that would not be relinquished. Londot’s eight kills in the set was only one shy of USI’s team total in the third.
• S4: The Buckeyes closed the match with back-to-back points after the Eagled tied the set at 24.
