BABSON PARK, Fla.—A pair of solid pitching performances helped the Southeastern University softball team split its Sun Conference doubleheader against Webber International.
The Fire scraped across a pair of runs in the first game in a 2-0 victory, but were unable to bring a runner home in the second in a 1-0 loss.
With two outs and a runner on first in the top of the second, Hannah Bonner doubled to right center to score Ramsey Sullivan.
Hannah Bodenhorn made that one run be enough, allowing just two hits in seven innings of work with five strikeouts, with 10 hitters flying out.
Southeastern tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh with a sacrifice fly by Bailee Moll, scoring Jaz Szierer.
Bonner had two of the team’s three hits.
The Fire had five hits in game two, but were unable to string enough together to bring in a run. In the second, SEU had the bases loaded after a pair of walks and a hit by pitch, but a fly ball to center field ended the inning.
In the third, Sam Holcomb and Lauren Watters each had two-out hits, but a ground ball to second retired the side.
Watters was 2-for-2 with a walk in the second game.
Cheyenne Benson-Ross allowed five hits over six innings with three walks, giving up a single run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly.
The Fire had a chance in the seventh with two on and two outs, but a ball right to the first baseman closed the game.
Southeastern returns to action on Saturday, hosting Warner for an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
