PNW Drops GLIAC Game at Davenport 86-69
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Purdue Northwest men’s basketball team was defeated Saturday 86-69 by the Davenport Panthers in a road Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game. Anthony Barnard put up a double-double as he got 17 points and 14 rebounds.
The Panthers jumped in front 10-2 at the 16:42 mark on a Chris Rollins layup and really never let the Pride back into the game. The Black and Gold shot themselves in the foot with 17 turnovers in the first 20 minutes as DU put on a relentless pressuring full-court defense. Janeau Joubert finished the first half with six steals for the home team. Davenport carried a 16-point lead into the intermission.
The second half wasn’t much better for PNW, as the Panthers continued an attacking defense forcing the Pride into mistakes. Despite winning the rebounding margin 41-39, the Pride ultimately fell by 17.
Barnard notched his fourth double-double of the season as he continues to pace the Pride in rebounding. Juniors Frank Nunn and Tim Gilmore each scored 11 points, with Gilmore adding five rebounds while Nunn collected six rebounds and blocked two shots.
A major difference in this one was the foul line. PNW went 10-15 while Davenport earned 29 foul shots on the game and hit 24 of them. The Pride did dominate the bench points category, getting a contribution of 41 points from its reserves while DU scored 25.

“We didn’t play or coach very well today, and Davenport took advantage. Two days after taking great care of the ball, we were pretty careless this afternoon, and those turnovers led to a lot of easy baskets for Davenport. Every time we made a run in the second half, they answered, so you have to tip your cap. I thought our guys had great focus this week in preparation, we just didn’t play well enough today to beat a good team on the road. Our focus needs to get sharper and sharper, but I’m confident our team will continue to work and stay hungry.”
