PNW Men’s Soccer Takes Down Quincy 2-1

QUINCY, Ill. — The Purdue Northwest men’s soccer team got its first road win of the season Thursday, as they took down the Quincy University Hawks 2-1 from Legends Stadium in Quincy, Ill.

The match remained scoreless through one half, as both teams battled on the defensive end. Each team had seven shots, with the Pride getting three on goal.

Offense was back with a vengeance once the second half began, as each team came out attacking. Just 42 seconds into the half, Kingsford Adjei struck first off the assist from Hayden Tucker. Sophomore Enrique Serna (Majadahonda, Spain/Colegio San Jaime) got to work in the 66th minute, as he scored off the cross assist from Nieves. In the 75th minute, Justin Barragan (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) silenced the crowd with a ’25 strike to give the Pride a 2-1 advantage. Barragan now leads the team with two goals on the season.

Quincy had several chances late in the match, including a header in the 87th minute from Aubrey Reis that was just wide.

Raul Garrido Garcia (Madrid, Spain/Menesiano) got the start for the Pride once again in goal, and made eight saves as he played all 90 minutes and got his second win of the season as well.

Next up, the men’s team will play host to Illinois-Springfield Saturday as a part of PNW’s Fall Sports Festival at Dowling Park. The match will start at 10 a.m. to be immediately followed by the women’s soccer team as they take on Southern Indiana.
