Purdue Northwest Volleyball Suffers Road Loss to Ashland (Ohio)
Ashland, Ohio – Junior Morgan Spencer (Oswego, Ill./Aurora Central Catholic) tallied a team-leading 12 digs as well as four kills and two block assists as the Purdue University Northwest volleyball team dropped a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match to Ashland University (Ohio) Saturday afternoon at Kates Gymnasium in Ashland, Ohio.  PNW fell in three straight sets by scores of 25-17, 25-13 and 25-11.

  

Senior Gabrielle Martin (DeMotte, Ind./Kankakee Valley) finished the match with six kills and four digs, while sophomore Brooke Ahrens (Covington, Ind./Covington) had 16 assists and three kills.

 

The Pride never led in the first set, but back-to-back kills by senior Kayla Elsea (Palmyra, Ind./Crawford County) and junior Carissa Jones (Whiting, Ind./Bishop Noll) closed the gap to 19-16.  However, the Eagles closed out the opening set on a 6-1 run to take an early 1-0 advantage in the match.  Ashland stayed hot to open the second set jumping out to an early 10-3 lead.  

Kills by Spencer and Martin made the score 19-13, but the Eagles scored six straight points to go up 2-0 in the match.  

 

The third set saw PNW fall behind early 12-3 and never recovered before dropping the set and match 25-11.

      

Purdue Northwest (5-12 overall/1-6 GLIAC) returns home and hosts Saginaw Valley State University (Mich.) on Friday, October 6.  The conference match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the H.D. Kesling Gymnasium at the James B. Dworkin Student Services and Activities Complex in Westville, Ind.
