This marks Versyp’s 11th year working with the local cause

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue women’s basketball head coach Sharon Versyp will serve as the co-chair of the 25th-annual Great Lafayette Hunger Hike, set for Saturday and Sunday, September 16-17, marking her 11th year working with the community fundraiser. The 2016 Hunger Hike raised a record $116,000 to help raise awareness and make a different in the fight against hunger.

The 2017 event will start Saturday, Sept. 16, with a 5K run scheduled for 9 a.m. ET at the Celery Bog Nature Area in West Lafayette, and continue Sunday, Sept. 17, with a 3K walk that will start at 2 p.m. at Riehle Plaza in downtown Lafayette. The Boilermaker women’s basketball team has stood alongside their head coach every year at the event, participating in the 3K walk, and in the past Purdue’s volleyball, track and field and cross country teams and many other Boilermaker affiliated individuals have participated in the event.
