RV Trojans Down Bethel in Crossroads League Opener

 

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Taylor women’s basketball team opened its Crossroads League schedule with an 82-67 win at Bethel on Tuesday night, with four Trojans scoring in double-figures, led by Kendall Bradbury’s game-high 28 points.

 

TU led by four, 11-7, halfway through the first quarter, before ripping off a 14-2 run to finish the period with a 25-9 advantage.

 

The Trojans extended the first-quarter run into the second stanza, scoring the first seven points to open up a 32-9 lead with 5:19 to go until halftime. Buckets by Aubrey Wright and Cassidy Wyse, followed by a hoop-and-harm by Josie Cobb accounted for the seven-point burst. Bethel (3-5, 0-1 CL) outscored TU, 16-10, over the rest of the half to cut the Taylor lead to 42-25 at intermission.

 

The third quarter brought more of the same for the Purple and Gold, as Taylor opened the second half on an 11-2 run to push the lead to 53-27 at the 4:53 mark. Becca Buchs converted a two-pointer and a triple on back-to-back possessions to give TU a game-high 29-point lead, 58-29, with 3:03 remaining in the period.

 

Taylor entered the fourth quarter with a 63-38 lead over the Pilots, but BC knocked down six-of-10 treys in the final period to cut the lead to as low as 14, before the Trojans closed out the 15-point win.

 

The Trojans outrebounded Bethel, 38-26, on the evening, and Cobb matched a career-high with a team-high nine rebounds to go with 13 points, while Buchs grabbed a career-high seven rebounds and scored 13 points. Bradbury added six rebounds to her 28 points and Wyse notched 13 points, five assists and three rebounds for the Trojans.

 

RV Taylor (5-4, 1-0 CL) will take eight days off, before returning to Paul Patterson Court at Odle Arena to host Spring Arbor (3-5, 0-1 CL) in its next contest on Wednesday, November 30, at 7:00 pm.
