Sharp Shines; Purdue Northwest Drops Game to Taylor, 3-0
HAMMOND, Ind. – Junior Kelley Sharp (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) racked up a career-high 16 saves on the afternoon, but it was not enough as the Purdue Northwest women’s soccer team fell 3-0 to Taylor University (Ind.) Wednesday at Pepsi Field in Dowling Park in Hammond, Ind. Junior Shelby Ross (Nashville, Ind./Columbus North) led the offensive attack for the Pride recording two of the team’s four shots for the game. The 16 saves was the second highest single-game total for PNW in program history.   Â
After a strong defensive effort by both teams to open the game, there was no score at the end of the first half. In the 65th minute of action, the Trojans notched the game’s first goal off the foot of senior Megan Kammer from 15 yards out on the left side. Junior Bailey Zehr scored the second goal for Taylor in the 80th minute off an assist by senior Nikki Zaino. Zaino scored the final goal off a rebounded save on the right side of the goal.  Â
The Pride continue their home stand on Sunday, September 17, with a non-conference game against Davenport University (Mich.). The game is scheduled for an 11 a.m. CT start at Pepsi Field.Â
