Stephanie White Enters Academic All-America HOF

The Boilermakers have had a new hall of fame member in each of the last two years

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced its 2017 Academic All-America Hall of Fame class Friday, inducting Purdue women’s basketball great Stephanie White. The 1999 All-American and CoSIDA Academic All-American remains one of the top players in program history, and led the Boilermakers to the 1999 NCAA Championship.

White was named Third Team Academic All-America in her junior season and received first-team honors as a senior. She was a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District pick and a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. She took home the 1999 Wade Trophy and Honda Award, and was a finalist for the NCAA Woman of the Year. The AP, WBCA and USBWA tabbed her a First Team All-American in 1999, in addition to Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year and Big Ten Player of the Year recognition. She was a four-time All-Big Ten honoree, earning first-team plaudits as a junior and senior, and was inducted into the Purdue Athletics Hall of Fame in the class of 2006. White still ranks third in Purdue history in scoring with 2,182 career points, second all-time with 578 career assists and sixth all-time with 277 career steals.

After her time with the Boilermakers she was selected 21st overall in the 1999 WNBA Draft by the Charlotte Sting and spent five seasons in the league, including four with the Indiana Fever. When she finally decided to hang it up, White embarked on a coaching career that has included several stops in college and the WNBA. She served as the head coach of the Indiana Fever in 2014 and 15, leading her squad to the WNBA Finals, before moving back to the college ranks as the head coach at Vanderbilt in 2016. While coaching in the WNBA, White served as a college basketball analyst for ESPN and the Big Ten Network. She also covered the NBA’s Indiana Pacers for FOX Sports Indiana.

White is the second Boilermaker in as many years to join the CoSIDA Academic All-America Hall of Fame, following the induction of Drew Brees in 2016. She joins a group of 146 members of the Academic All-America Hall of Fame.
