Taylor Closes Season at Missouri Baptist
CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – The 2018 season came to an end on Saturday for the Taylor football program, as the Trojans suffered a 21-12 loss at Missouri Baptist.
The opening half was a defensive struggle, with MBU (4-7, 2-4 MSFA) taking a 7-0 lead to the break. The offenses came alive in the third, combining for a trio of touchdowns but neither side scored over the final 10 minutes.
Missouri Baptist rushed the ball 60 times for 245 yards and three touchdowns, while Taylor countered with 32 carries for 124 yards and one score.
Neither squad was able to muster much through the air on the cold afternoon, as the sides combined to complete just 28-of-52 passes for 218 yards.
Taylor scored twice in the third quarter to draw within 7-6 and 14-12, but could not pull in front of the host Spartans.
Everett Pollard closed his record-setting career at TU with 16 completions for 117 yards and one touchdown pass, while scampering for a score and 21 yards on seven carries.
Drew LeFever paced the ground game with 51 yards on nine rushes, while Daniel Boy caught five passes for 47 yards and one touchdown.
Jackson Bronkema and Tyler Gerig set career-highs with 14 and 12 tackles, while Brady Hill posted nine stops and a sack and Sam Bartu collected two sacks.
The game marked the final contest in a Trojan uniform for TU’s 21 seniors, as the Purple and Gold closed the 2018 campaign at 3-7 overall and 1-5 against Mid-States Football Association Mideast League foes.
