Taylor Drops Pair in League Opener at No. 10 IWU

MARION, Ind. – Taylor fell to No. 10 IWU, 4-3 and 2-0, in its Crossroads League-opening doubleheader on the road on Friday.

Game one went to the Wildcats (21-2), as Indiana Wesleyan scored two runs each in the second and third innings to erase a 3-0 TU lead and held on for the one-run win.

Taylor used three-straight two-out singles from Courtney Moriarty, Davis Carter and Erin Cozad to strike first in the opening half inning, with Cozad’s base knock bringing in Moriarty for a 1-0 TU lead after one inning.

In the second frame, Taylor Wilson reached on a walk and then advanced to third on Katie Suits’ double, before Cassie Kuizin’s double to deep center scored both Wilson and Lyndsey Cornell, who pinch-ran for Suits, to increase the Taylor lead to 3-0.

IWU plated two runs in the bottom of the second and then two more in the third to take the 4-3 lead.

TU had a runner on second with one out in the fourth and a runner on second with two outs in the fifth and sixth innings, but the Trojans could not convert, resulting in the 4-3 defeat.

Taylor was held to just three hits in the second game, but TU had a chance to crack the scoreboard in the second stanza with the bases loaded with two outs, and the Trojans could not find the timely hit.

Indiana Wesleyan put up a pair of runs in the third inning to secure the 2-0 win.

RV Taylor (6-4) will return to action on Tuesday, when it hosts Huntington (3-5) for a Crossroads League doubleheader at Gudakunst Field, with the first pitch set for 4:00 pm.
