Taylor Extends Win Streak in Home Rout

UPLAND – TU’s women’s basketball squad won its seventh-consecutive contest on Saturday, which matches its longest stretch since the 2012-2013 campaign. The team utilized a second half surge to tackle Mount Vernon Nazarene by an 81-66 margin.
Defense defined the opening period, as Taylor (15-4, 6-2 CL) and Mount Vernon Nazarene (10-10, 3-5 CL) picked up 12 points and shot under 31.0 percent from the floor.
Taylor’s reserves logged great minutes at the beginning of the second quarter, as the team went on an 11-5 run without a starter on the court. By halftime, nine different Trojans had entered the scoring column with 11 players grabbing at least one point before the final buzzer.
Abby Buchs sparked the TU offense in the second half, knocking down the first 12 points for the Trojans. Taylor utilized a 16-7 run to take a commanding lead that would not be vanquished.
The Trojans stayed strong in the fourth quarter pushing their advantage to a game-high 20 points with four minutes remaining. The team went a perfect three-for-three from beyond the arc in the final period.
The bench played a big role in Saturday’s win, nabbing 34 points as a group. Deckard led the way with nine points and a pair of triples. Contributing a season-high eight points and four assists, Sydney Huffman also put together a solid effort in the victory.
Abby Buchs finished with multiple team-highs, recording 16 points and nine rebounds. With today’s strong output, Buchs has already surpassed her career season-highs for points, rebounds and free throws this season.
No. 11 Taylor will return to the planks on Wednesday at 7:00 pm when the team takes on the Bethel Pilots (10-10, 2-6 CL) on the road.
